Just me and a sharpie

Never having felt great confidence standing before "The Big Blank White Canvas" (hear the booming voice that echos while saying that), I have always had much more fun and a sense of freedom while creating artfulness on other non-traditional objects, such as the lunchbag.

Since my children were old enough to tote a lunchbag to school, I have never let one go out of the house undecorated. That's a lot of lunch bags, if you consider that I have two children who don't like to buy school lunch, one graduating high school this year and the other beginning it in the fall.

So, I'd thought I'd share with you from time to time, the unplanned, two-second effort that makes me, my family and a multitude of kids that have eaten lunch next my daughters over the years, crack a smile. I am posting this specifically today, because we were rushing this morning, and I had Nina's bag on the counter and had forgotten to go back and draw on it. She lifted it up to put it in her backpack, gasped, and held it up to me in mock horror! I realized it has become a joyful tradition that cannot be broken. My only regret is that I had never photographed them. So now, I will begin a recording and sharing them with you. Hope it gives you a smile and maybe a good idea.

    DEBORAH GREGG

Mixed-media making, junk collecting, hands-have-to-be-making-things-at-all-times kind of girl. I inscribe into my art with writings that have been described as a combination of diary-like entries and poetry. I love to share my enthusiasm for using reclaimed materials to create art with my students as well.
